Eligibility criteria have now been released, and online and manual forms are now available for the recently announced Drought Transport Subsidies. Most of the eligibility criteria are consistent with those required for other RAA funding. Over 50% of income, under normal seasonal conditions, must come from primary production, and applicants can be trading in a variety of business structures as long as they have an ABN.
Specific to this subsidy, applicants must be negatively impacted by drought and must not hold off-farm assets exceeding $1,000,000.
Subsidies will cover 50% of transport costs up to $5 per kilometre and 1500 km per trip, excluding GST. A maximum of $3,750 can therefore be claimed per trip. A threshold has also been set at $30,000 per business over 18 months, backdated to 1 January 2018 and continuing to 30 June 2019.
Farmers who transport their own stock, fodder and water can also apply, with guidelines available as to maximum rates per kilometre based on truck size.
